What The Bible Says About Kindness

In the bible, kindness is not merely an act of politeness but a profound expression of God's character and love. The scriptures emphasize kindness as a powerful attribute, depicting it as a transformative force in our communities and personal relationships. Kindness, deeply rooted in compassion, generosity, and love, is portrayed through the actions and lives of biblical figures.

The Good Samaritan

In one of Jesus' most poignant parables (Luke 10:25-37), the Good Samaritan exemplifies the essence of true kindness. He aids a wounded man from a different ethnic and social background, embodying what it means to love our neighbors beyond conventional boundaries.

But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was, and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. (Luke 10:33-34 NIV)

Ruth And Boaz

The story of Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 2:1-23) beautifully illustrates kindness in action. Boaz's gracious treatment of Ruth, a Moabite widow, showcases an exceptional level of kindness and respect. His actions demonstrate the inclusivity and unconditional nature of biblical kindness.

So Boaz said to Ruth, "My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with the women who work for me." (Ruth 2:8 NIV)

The Forgiveness Of Joseph

Joseph's narrative (Genesis 50:15-21) is a testament to resilience and kindness. Despite betrayal by his brothers, he chooses to forgive and provide for them during a famine, highlighting kindness's capacity to heal and restore broken relationships.

But Joseph said to them, "Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (Genesis 50:19-20 NIV)
